Don’t call it gentrification

Knock, knock. Who’s there? Regeneration! BOOM! That’s who. Work starts on a new project in Turnpike Lane, north London: a beautiful Edwardian house, rented to the council for decades then left to rot – soon to become the family home for a well deserving urban pioneer and his three lovely children.

Don’t call it gentrification. There’s nothing sinister going on here. This is not an act of class warfare. It’s just a house; undervalued and neglected. It’s not our fault the previous landlord was a deadbeat, or that the council saw fit to let the house fall apart, or that the landlord decided to sell. We are here to clean up their mess – to put right 30+ years of couldn’t-give-a-fuckery. That’s what we do. We are architects. We fix stuff. We make places better. We help people. At least that’s what we try to do.
