Studio

Robert Rhodes Architecture + Interiors is a specialist architecture and design studio based in London.

We are motivated by our love of old buildings, our commitment to the city, and our belief that conservation and regeneration are fundamental to a sustainable future.

We believe architecture is about making simple, useful, meaningful and beautiful places and things.  We do it to make places that are wonderful for everyone; and to make enduring, joyful, sustainable, financially rewarding assets for our clients.

We have an expanding portfolio of carefully considered interventions intended to enhance the lives and the environment of all who experience them.

We have a particular focus on residential projects, listed building works, regeneration, commercial renovation, interiors, and small-scale development.

…the unreasoned joy of the simple correspondence of appearance and reality; the evident rightness of things as they are, seen clearly.
– Michael Benedikt, author of For an Architecture of Reality.

About Robert
Originally from Pennsylvania, Robert studied architecture in Ohio, New York City and Florence, Italy. He moved to London in 2003, working with John Simpson & Partners Architects, Liam O’Connor Architects and Planning Consultants, and Lees Associates Architecture and Design.

Robert left Lees Associates in late 2009 to start Robert Rhodes Architecture + Interiors.

Robert trained in the Bauhaus tradition, and as an urbanist in the lineage of Jan Gehl and Colin Rowe.

He also trained in and practiced contemporary classicism, learning the leaders of that movement. He secretly holds onto more of their tenets than he’d care to admit, putting that knowledge, reverence and earnestness to good use – working primarily in sensitive contexts and with listed buildings.

Robert believes that ornament is not crime. He also believes that less is more. He is, at his core, a rationalist and a conservationist.

Robert is a leader within The American Institute of Architects, having served on the Board of Directors both for the UK Chapter and International Region.

Robert also served as President of the UK Chapter of the American Institute of Architects from 2013-2014.
